Retired UK Based Soccer Player Enoch Showunmi Joins NJ Teamsters FC Advisory Board
New Jersey Teamsters Football Club (NJ Teamsters FC) is excited to announce retired UK based soccer player Enoch Showunmi as our first professional athlete to join our organization's advisory board. As an advisory board member, Mr. Showunmi will assist with steering the organization into the future and to becoming a well-rounded, organized and sustainable soccer development club.
Enoch Showunmi was born in London, United Kingdom to parents of Nigerian descent. has a BA in Business Administration from London South Bank University, a MSc in Finance from Leeds Beckett University, and has played several positions in professional soccer over a span of 12 years. His career began in 2003 at Luton Town and continued with the likes of Leeds United, Bristol City, and was Vice-Captain at Tranmere Rover where he was also named 'Player of the Season.' and has notched 70 goals his career.
In 2004, Mr. Showunmi represented Nigeria against Jamaica and Ireland; he officially retired in 2015. As an advocate for players, Enoch Showunmi was a Representative for the Professional Footballers Association (PFA), a workers union for soccer players in United Kingdom, who has worked on conflict resolution, contract negotiations on behalf of players and was elected to serve on the Management Committee for the PFA.
Enoch says, "As a former professional player that has managed to play for over a decade, my passion has always been to give back and inspire talented young athletes that have the drive to succeed but who don't know the roads to take. I've teamed up with NJ Teamsters FC to focus efforts to really bring the best out of these young athletes and help them to pursue their dreams. As Executive Director & Ambassador at Athletes Sports Media Scholarships (ASM Scholarships), I see a path for student athletes to really pursue their passion for soccer but also open more options in their lives and careers. Two areas of my life that have had huge influence has been education and soccer and I intend to impart my knowledge and experience on the next generation coming up."
His current position as an Executive Director at ASM Scholarships allow Enoch to showcase his passion for soccer through mentoring and gaining exposure for students, linking them with accredited colleges/universities and professional clubs in the U.S. and abroad.
NJ Teamster FC founder & GM Alex Geraldino enthusiastically exclaimed, "We are excited that Enoch Showunmi will be joining our advisory board. He is very knowledgeable about the game, from the athletic and business perspective and he has a proven track record as a player and executive. We feel he'll be an asset to our organization."
